Temporary setup guide: Trustworks MCP for Microsoft 365 Copilot
Overview
You can start using Trustworks MCP in Microsoft 365 Copilot before its public release in the Agent Store. For this pilot, your Microsoft 365 admin uploads a ZIP package provided by Trustworks and makes the agent available to selected users.
Admins: upload the package and assign access.
Users: open the agent in Copilot and sign in to Trustworks. You don’t need to upload the ZIP yourself.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
- The agent package:
trustworks-mcp.zip, provided by your Trustworks contact. Keep the file zipped. - A Microsoft 365 admin: someone with permission to upload and deploy custom agents in your organization.
- Copilot access: your admin should confirm that participating users have the licenses required to use the agent.
- A TrustWorks account: each participating user needs an active account for the workspace they want to connect to.
1. Make the agent available
For your Microsoft 365 admin
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Under Agents, select Upload custom agent.
- Select Choose File and upload
trustworks-mcp.zip. Microsoft will validate the package. - Check the agent’s details, then select Next.
- Choose the users or groups who should have access. We recommend starting with a small pilot group.
- Review the requested permissions and capabilities.
- Follow the prompts to Finish deployment.
- Let the assigned users know they can open Trustworks MCP in Copilot.
For the upload workflow, see Microsoft’s custom agent deployment instructions.
2. Open Trustworks MCP
For users, after your admin has deployed the agent
- Open Microsoft 365 Copilot and sign in with your work account.
- Look for Trustworks MCP in your agent list. If it isn’t there, open Agents → All agents and search for it in the Agent Store.
- Select Trustworks MCP and follow any prompts to add or open it. Availability depends on your organisation’s settings. See Microsoft’s agent installation guidance.

3. Connect your Trustworks account
- Start a conversation with Trustworks MCP.
- When prompted, select the sign-in option and sign in with your Trustworks account.

- Complete any authorisation prompts, then return to Copilot.

4. Check the connection
Ask a question about data you know is available in your Trustworks workspace.

Check that the agent returns the expected information. If it asks you to sign in again or returns an error, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| I can’t find Trustworks MCP. | Confirm you’re using the work account your admin assigned access to. Ask your admin to check deployment, user assignment, and licensing. |
| I can’t sign in to Trustworks. | Try signing in to Trustworks directly to check your account access. If that also fails, contact your Trustworks administrator. |
| The agent opens, but a request fails. | Confirm you’ve completed Trustworks sign-in. If it still fails, send your Trustworks contact the question you asked and the error message or a screenshot. |
| The ZIP upload fails. | Check that you’re uploading the original ZIP without extracting or changing it. Share the validation error with your Trustworks contact. |
Updates during the pilot
If an update is needed, your Trustworks contact will send your admin a new package with instructions for updating the deployed agent.
When the published version is available
We’ll let you know when Trustworks MCP is publicly available in the Agent Store and provide instructions for switching from the pilot version.
