Setting up your TrustWorks (formerly QueryLayer) platform begins with inviting teammates, assigning them roles, teams, and associating them with specific business functions.

User Roles

  • Admin: Admin users have unrestricted access to all platform modules.
  • Member: Members can only access tasks assigned to them and specific processing activities. For a detailed breakdown of the member role, please refer to [this article].

Role permissions

To view the permissions associated with each role, navigate to Global Settings > Roles. Note that permissions for each role are fixed and cannot be edited.

Teams in TrustWorks

Every user must be associated with a team. Teams play a crucial role when assigning or reassigning tasks.

You can also mention teammates in comments using "@" for individual users and "#" for entire teams, e.g., #Privacy.You can also mention teammates in comments using "@" for individual users and "#" for entire teams, e.g., #Privacy.

Managing teams

To manage your organisation's teams, go to Global Settings > Teams . Here, you can create, edit, or delete teams.

Creating a New Team


  • Click on the +New Team button.

  • Fill in the team details, select a business function, designate a team leader, and select team members. Optionally, add a description and Save the team.

You can also edit and delete teams if needed.

Business Functions

TrustWorks comes with predefined business functions to help users quickly map their organisational structure. These functions can be customised to fit specific needs.

Default Business Functions

Here's a list of default business functions and their descriptions:

Business Function Description
Human Resources Responsible for managing employee recruitment, hiring, training, benefits, and other personnel-related matters.
Finance Responsible for managing financial transactions, accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.
Marketing Responsible for promoting the company's products or services, identifying target markets, and developing marketing strategies.
Sales Responsible for selling the company's products or services to customers, generating revenue, and achieving sales targets.
Customer Service Responsible for providing assistance and support to customers, handling complaints and inquiries, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Information Technology Responsible for managing the company's technology infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and databases.
Operations Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the company, including production, inventory management, and supply chain management.
Legal Responsible for providing legal advice and support to the company, managing legal risks, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
Procurement Responsible for sourcing and purchasing goods and services for the company, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships.
Logistics Responsible for managing the movement of goods and materials, including transportation, storage, and distribution.
Research and Development Responsible for developing new products or services, conducting market research, and exploring new technologies.
Quality Control Responsible for ensuring that the company's products or services meet quality standards and customer expectations.
Project Management Responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
Public Relations Responsible for managing the company's public image, communicating with the media and stakeholders, and promoting a positive reputation.
Administration Responsible for managing the company's administrative functions, including record-keeping, office management, and support services.
Training and Development Responsible for providing training and development opportunities to employees, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge needed to perform their roles effectively.
Health and Safety Responsible for ensuring that the workplace is safe and healthy, complying with health and safety regulations, and managing risks.
Environmental Management Responsible for managing the company's environmental impact, complying with environmental regulations, and promoting sustainability.
Business Development Responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and expanding the company's market share.
Communications Responsible for managing internal and external communications, including public relations, marketing, and employee communications.

Creating new business functions

If you need a business function not listed in the defaults:

  1. Navigate to Global Settings > Business Functions .
  2. Click on + New Business Function .

  1. Provide a name and optional description.
  2. Click on the + Create button.

To edit existing business functions press on + next to the name of the function.

Make the necessary changes and click on + Update .


User Management

Only Admin users can manage other users. To do so, navigate to Global Settings > Users .

Here you can edit (change assigned roles, teams, etc) as well as delete users if needed.

Inviting a New User

  1. Click on the + Invite User button.

  1. Fill in user details, assign a role, and associate them with a team.
  2. Send the invite.

  1. The invited user will receive an email invitation, which they must accept.
  2. Upon acceptance, they'll be prompted to set a password for their TrustWorks account.


  1. If needed you can also resend or cancel the invite
